I am heading back to Alaska next week; so I am running around like crazy buying and shipping supplies to myself. The summer has gone by extremely fast. I wish I could linger with friends longer. I seem to show up and take off again rather quickly.
I am sure many of you wonder how my transition back has been (of course I finally get to the point of telling you all about it as I begin another transition). Anyway, a week before school ended a student of mine died. He was an amazing young fellow who picked blueberries with me in the sunshine and taught me how to make labrador tea. A week after being back in Colorado, another friend died in a motorcycle accident. He was a year younger than me. As some friends were leaving this world, other friends were celebrating their lives in this world. Two sets of friends from my college days were married. My brother’s wife also had another child.
Other than participating in major events in the lives of friends, I have been rafting Colorado rivers and enjoying the Denver music scene. I have also been recieving acupunture every week and have delved into the world of chinese herbs.
My tranistion between worlds has been okay. On my first night back in Colorado there was a party at my house. The intensity of so many people was a bit overwhelming. Almost everyone seemed pretencious, and I found myself leaving the group for individual time throughout the night. They seem less pretencious now. I am also amazed at how easy it is to spend money here. I get aggrevated driving in traffic and searching the endless isles at grocery stores and all the other stores I have to visit for supplies. I am happy about the variety of food though. There’s indian food, ethiopian, thai, excellent italian, fresh organic farm food from Denver Urban Gardens, and my roomate makes a mean smoothie.
I have more comments on American society in general, but I need to move on in my day and get some important packages sent out.
Peace and Love
